White Manjushri (Sanskrit: Sita Manjushri, Tibetan: Jamyang Karpo, Jam Dbyangs Dkar Po and English: The White One of Glorious Melodious Speech) is another form of the wisdom deity Manjushri. The White Manjushri is the Bodhisattva of wisdom as meditational deity, form the Sidhaikavira Mahatantraraja. Although there are a number for different forms of Manjushri that have a white appearance generally when referring to a White Manjushri it refers to either the popular Siddhaikavira or the Arapachana.
White Manjushri is depicted white in color like the autumn moon with one face and two arms. In this form, he is generally represented with his legs crossed in Vajra posture; his right hand in the mudra of supreme generosity holding the stem of a lotus on which rests a sword; and his left hand raised holding a blue lotus on which rests a book. There are other traditions where White Manjushri has the simple attribute of a book resting on an Utpala flower (as in the representation on the right), or with multiple faces and arms, or riding a lion.
Expertly cast from copper alloy using lost wax method gilded with 24 karat gold and hand painted face,ย this statue is an exceptionally beautiful portrayal of White Manjushri.ย This sculpture was individually handcrafted in Patan, Nepal by master artisans of the Shakya clan who are considered among the best in the world. These craftsmen are the modern heirs to a centuries-old tradition of creating sacred art for use in temples and monasteries. The fine metalworking techniquesย have been passed down from generation to generation since ancient times.
